County property tax

The 100 most populous counties in the states whose property-tax law we have read and cited. Each page shows what owner-occupants told the Census they pay, with its margin of error, and how the state assesses, caps and exempts property.

These are measured outcomes, not levied rates. A county has no single property-tax rate: its bill is the sum of overlapping county, city, school and special-district levies.
